Keswick
I plotted a route from Dumfries to Ambleside avoiding the motorway. I really don't like driving on the motorways in the rain, with cars speeding past in excess of 70mph.
We stopped for a cup of tea in what looked like a small pub, but turned out to be a large conference centre and hotel. Our lunch stop was Keswick which has closed many of its streets to traffic, but provided parking areas close by. The scenery in the Lakes District is lovely, even on a wet day.
We are now at Ambleside waiting for our washing to finish. The young couple running our accommodation, Compston House, are very friendly, possibly because they spent 2 years living and working in Australia. He even walked carried our suitcases for us! Car parking in Ambleside is limited, but we have a space allocated not far from our B n B.
