Dumfries

Dumfries has Scotland's oldest bridge, probably dating from the 13th century, though it has had some renovations since then. Dumfries is also the last resting place of Robbie Burns, Scotland's most famous poet (writer of Auld Lang Syne).

The red fountain dates from the 1850s. It has 4 cherubs holding crocodiles, but I can't find any explanation for this unusual feature in statues of this era. The fountain brought fresh water to the town helping end a cholera epidemic.
