Virgin Rock Rest Area

This is an example of the great scenery on the Inland Highway between Emerald and Carnarvon Gorge. This photo of Mount Zamia was simply taken from the roadside rest area (which importantly had clean toilets and a picnic table). It is a couple of kms north of Springsure in the Minerva Hills National Park.

Day 43 - Tuesday 18 July

Our cabin may have been tiny but the beds were comfortable and the buffet breakfast was passable. There was mass queuing to get off the ship but once out of the terminal building we easily caught a taxi to our Radisson Blu hotel just in time to miss a downpour.  At the hotel we initially thought our clothes and luggage stank of cigarette smoke from the ferry. While smoking was banned in cabins and other inside areas of the ship, we could smell smoke everywhere. It now seems not to be our gear causing the smell but someone smoking in this non smoking hotel! When we contacted management about it they at least came to our room and agreed there is a smell of cigarettes smoke, and said they would investigate. The European Choir Games are taking place in Riga and we can hear a choir performing in the park across the road. This is a new hotel with air conditioning but there is a narrow floor to ceiling window that can be opened to let in fresh air, and  which also allows us to hear the choir....

Last Night Bermagui

There is an Italian restaurant at the marina and that is where we had dinner. Nice setting and the food was good. They serve lovely sour dough bread from a local bakery we had not yet idiscovered. It was so good I was there this morning when the bakery opened - fig and walnut yum! It was still light when we left the restaurant and I was able to take this pic of the sea-going fishing boats. This area is known as the Sapphire Coast because of the colour of the water. It must be a good fishing area from the number of boats around.

Day 26 - Friday 30 June

The ship berthed in Bergen this morning and we went on a 2 hour bus tour of the city. Later we walked around the port area then took the funicular up Mount Floyen. This pic was taken at the top and shows our ship in the foreground. Ten goats roam around the mountain but they are monitored by gps trackers. They seem to have the role of keeping down areas of vegetation.
