Trip Home
We already knew that driving home from the Sunshine Coast through Brisbane back to the Gold Coast on the Thursday before Easter was not a good idea - but we hadn't anticipated the series of issues that would arise that day.
The first was losing the second key to the Jeep. We assumed it was somewhere in the van but it could have been lost around the resort. Two days later we did eventually find it in hte van as the key had fallen into the back of the stove.
Our rear vision camera was interfering with the Jeep's navigation system so we diverted to Nambour to have the technician check it out. Fortunately we were able to park the Jeep and van a couple of hundred metres from the workshop, but had to wait for the expert to return from another job. When he arrived it was disconcerting to see him pull the Jeep's dashboard to pieces to be able to take photos of the wiring to send to the manufacturer as the problem could not be fixed.
The unscheduled delay meant we were caught in stop/start traffic. On the run down the M1 towards the Gold Coast the left hand mirror fell off - we were in the lefthand lane so hopefully it didn't cause any problems for vehicles travelling behind us. There was nowhere to stop so we just had to keep driving. The mirror had earlier been knocked by a worker at a service station so that might have caused the problem even though there was no vibration or other sign the mirror was loose.
The last straw was a phone call from our house sitter telling us a door had slammed shut with the wind, and the handle would no longer turn and there was no way to get into the study. This meant that her computer and other bags could not be retrieved for her to take home. My first job when we got home was to attack the door handle with the drill to remove the handle to allow the door to be opened with a screwdriver.
The Bushtracker is too tall to park in our carport so we parked it across our driveway while we pack for our trip to Carnarvon Gorge next week.
